I often think how I got into the profession of teaching. I always admired my teachers growing up and I wanted to be them. I wanted to dress like them, walk like them, act just like them, but I never truly saw myself going to college, graduating with a degree in education, and becoming them.
It wasn't until the birth of my children that I truly found my passion to teach children and help them grow into effective, well-rounded citizens of society. A lot of hard work and dedication later, I am now on my second year of teaching, while also in my first year of my masters degree.
I absolutely love my job and there is no other one I'd rather have. I have a learned so much as a new teacher that is truly invaluable. I have learned that not all students are the same. They don't all think, learn, live the same. They are individuals with their own thoughts, feelings, and perspectives. It is my job to see them as such.
As a teacher, there is a greater responsibility we have to our students, outside of teaching them to read and arithmetic, but to be great people with compassion, understanding, and perseverance.
